Dell Announces Worldwide Availability Of The $25K All-Flash SC4020 Array

Today Dell announced that their $25,000 all-flash SC4020 Array is now available worldwide. As we previously mentioned, though the SC4020 isn't new, this new price point of an All-Flash Array (AFA) not only gives Dell a major advantage over other vendors, but it gives more organizations incentive to sample the benefits of flash with enterprise-ready data services and support.

In October 2014, an SSG-NOW independent survey selected Dell as the top choice for deploying enterprise flash/SSDs. Dell has been selected as their top choice for two years in a row. Now as Dell tackles the largest barrier to adoption of enterprise flash, price, they are shooting for the top spot once more.

The Dell Storage SC4020 AFA will be offered in two configurations:

  • SC4020 Entry-Level single-tier configuration:
    • 6 x 480GB read-intensive SSDs
    • 2.8TB raw capacity
  • SC4020 Flash-Optimized AFA multi-tier configuration:
    • 6 x 480GB read-intensive SSDs
    • 6 x 200GB write-intensive SSDs
    • 4.08TB raw capacity

Both drives are based off of the Dell Storage SC4020 and also come with:

  • 24 x Drive bays
  • 2U Form Factor
  • 2 x controllers
  • Intel Xeon Processor E3-1265L v2, 2.50GHz, 4 cores
  • 32GB of memory (16GB per controller)
  • 3-year Dell Copilot support

More drives can be added for additional storage or by moving cold data to more traditional storage arrays allowing for "hot reads" to be handled by the SSDs ensuring maximum performance.

Availability and pricing

The Dell Storage SC4020 AFA configurations are globally available now. The SC4020 Entry-Level single-tier configuration starts at $25,000 and the SC4020 Flash-Optimized AFA multi-tier configuration starts at $35,000
