As is standard with this class of Dell monitor, the unit contains a plethora of input and output connections, along with support for KVM and daisy chaining displays.

As noted, the UP3017 comes factory calibrated (the report is bundled with the packaging), so the display is already optimized and ready for use immediately after you take it out of the box. Dell also has equipped the monitor with a feature that automatically calibrates the brightness as the LEDs age, adding to its “hands off” and easy-to-use approach. That’s not to say users can’t change every aspect of the monitor, as the UP3017 is completely customizable through Dell Display Manager (DDM). The UP3017 is height-adjustable, with tilt, swivel and pivot features to ensure comfortable viewing distance and angle.

Design and build

As far as its build goes, the UP3017 is in line other UltraSharp displays, as it sports a black and dark silver design and a minimal bezel. The sturdy monitor also features handy tilt, swivel, pivot and vertical extension adjustment capabilities, allowing it to be used and positioned in all kinds of places. Moreover, its removable pedestal and Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) 100 mm mounting holes open up even more mounting possibilities.

The UP3017 boasts a generous 30-inch (75.62 cm) active area display with a native 16:10 resolution of 2560×1600 and provides users with full-screen support for those who want lower resolutions. The screen offers a matte finish, with offers exceptional anti-glare benefits for those working in brightly-lit office environments. While glossy panels might offer more rich and vibrant colors, they can become a mirror for every little light source around you.

The front of the monitor is host to all the functionality buttons. This includes the Presets Mode button, which allows you to choose from a list of preset color modes; the Brightness/Contrast button, which gives you direct access to the brightness/contrast menu; the Input Source button, which allows you to change from the list of input options; the Menu button, which launches the launch the on-screen display; the Exit button, which conveniently goes back to the main menu or exits the OSD main menu when pressed; and the Power button.

When you navigate through the menu, you will be able to use some of these buttons as the up and down navigation, “OK”, and “Back” functionality.

Turning the monitor around reveals the VESA mounting holes at center of the back panel, surrounding the regulatory label. Below the mounting hole is the stand release button, which allows you to easily detach the monitor from the stand. This comes in handy when setting up the monitor on an aftermarket stand, or quickly deploying the monitor in the field for a new workspace.

Underneath is home to most of the connectivity: the power connector, two HDMI ports, DisplayPort and mini-DisplayPort connectors (in), as well as a DisplayPort-out connector, the latter which supports multi-stream transport. The UP3017 is also equipped with an audio line-out port for speaker playback, two USB upstream and downstream ports, and a stand lock.

The left side of the monitor has the rest of the connectivity with two USB downstream ports.
