EMC Avamar Virtual Edition 7.1.1 for Microsoft Azure and Hyper-V Released

EMC today announced the release of a new version of its Avamar Virtual Edition which integrates the company's Avamar solution with Microsoft Azure and Hyper-V. EMC’s Avamar offers variable-length deduplication, daily backups and recovery, and support for virtualized environments. Avamar Virtual Edition can be deployed in a Hyper-V virtual machine in order to serve as a bridge between legacy backup functionality and cloud-based backup and disaster recovery solutions.

EMC Data Domain DD2200 Review (DD Boost for SQL)

The EMC Data Domain DD2200 is a deduplication appliance for backup and archive data that is designed for small to midrange data centers. A recent addition to the Data Domain line, the DD2200 consolidates backup, archive, and disaster recovery into one easy-to-manage 2U rack unit platform. The device is offered in two configurations: either a 7 drive system with 7.5TB of usable space or a 12 drive system with 17.2TB of usable space. The DD2200 supports up to 4.7TB per hour throughput and can support up to 860TB of logical capacity via expansion shelves.

ExaGrid EX32000E Appliance Backup Solution Announced

ExaGrid Systems has announced the EX32000E backup appliance solution, which replaces the very versatile EX21000E as its largest and most powerful appliance to date highlighted by data deduplication and their data landing zone. The EX3200E uses ExaGrid’s scale-out GRID technology, allowing it to combine up to 14 appliances in a single scale-out GRID for a total of 448TB full backup in a single system. This makes for a 52 percent increase in total capacity. In addition, its 14 appliances in a scale-out GRID makes the EX32000E one of the largest full-backup target systems on the market, with 882TB of usable storage and over 1PB of raw storage.
