Toshiba Announces New 15K, 900GB HDD

Today Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC) announced a new series of 15K RPM, 2.5” hard disk drives (HDDs), the AL14SX series. This new drive is designed for mission critical servers and storage. The AL14SX replaces the AL13SX with better performance and power efficiencies as well as a 50% increase in capacity, now up to 900GB.

Seagate Launches 2.4TB Enterprise Performance 10K 2.5-inch HDD

Seagate has announced the launch of their 2.4TB Enterprise Performance 10K 2.5-inch HDD, touting both market-best performance and capacity for 10K 2.5-inch drives. This budget-friendly drive is based on Seagate’s 9th-generation enterprise firmware (successor to the 8th generation) and is specifically designed for Database and transaction processing, VDI, file and print serving and similar workloads. Seagate also claims that it well-suited for mission-critical servers and external storage arrays, power- and space-constrained data centers, green IT and drive-retirement cost reduction initiatives, compliance and data security initiatives and for data center migrations from 3.5-inch drive systems to next-generation technology.

Toshiba Announces 8TB HDD For Enterprise

Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. announced that it is now shipping in volume its highest capacity HDD to date, the MG05ACA800. New to the MG series of HDDs, the MG05ACA800 has increased its capacity by 33%, or from 6TB to 8TB, from the previous MG04ACA model. The new 8TB HDD is a SATA 6.0Gbit/s drive that Toshiba claims to have a 12% increase in sustained transfer rate performance over the previous model.

Western Digital Bumps Up The Capacity Of The WD Purple To 10TB

Today Western Digital Corporation (WDC) announced that it had taken its surveillance drives, the WD Purple, and bumped the maximum capacity up to 10TB. Seagate Launches 12TB Enterprise HDD

Today at the OCP Summit 2017, Seagate Technology announced it plans to start volume shipping its new 12TB helium enterprise drives for production availability in the June quarter of 2017. The new 12TB drive, Seagate Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD, is designed to address the ability to locate and organize the increasing amount of unstructured data and make it available quickly and reliably for customers.
