Toshiba Announces Availability Of Dual Port OCZ Z-Drive 6000/6300 NVMe U.2 SSDs

Today Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. announced that is wholly owned subsidiary, OCZ, has made a dual port version of its Z-Drive 6000 NVM Express (NVMe) Solid State Drive (SSD) series immediately available. With a dual port connection two hosts can concurrently access data from the same storage device. Or users can use the dual port as a redundant access path to the drive, providing SAS-like features such as High Availability (HA).

Facebook Introduces A Flexible NVMe JBOF

At the Open Compute Project Summit today Facebook is announcing its flexible NVMe JBOF (just a bunch of flash), Lightning. Facebook is introducing Lightning as a flash building block, or flash sled. Lightning will allow data centers to better scale out flash capacity across multiple applications while tuning the compute-to-storage ratio. Facebook is contributing this new JBOF to the Open Compute Project.

Toshiba & Dell Partner To Make The Fastest SAS-Based Servers

Today Toshiba America Electronics Components, Inc. and Dell Inc. combined their technology to make SAS-based servers with the fastest random read enterprise SSDs in today’s market. These fast servers are composed of Toshiba’s PX04S SSDs and Dell’s PowerEdge R730 servers. Using a single PX04S the Dell server was able to hit 340,000 IOPS in random reads, which makes it the fastest SAS-based server.

Toshiba SG5 Client SSD Announced

Toshiba has announced the SG5 Series of client solid state drives (cSSD), the company’s first client SATA SSD to support 1,024GB capacity in an M.2 form factor. The SG5 also features 15nm TLC NAND flash memory to reach high storage capacities while maintaining a small form factor and driving down costs for consumers. Micron First Quarter Results Fall Short Of Estimates

Micron released their first quarter results for 2016 and missed revenue expectations. Analysts were looking for $3.46 billion in revenue and Micron reported $3.35 billion (Micron’s revenue was $4.57 billion this quarter last year). Not only that, Micron’s revenue prediction for this quarter, which is between $2.9 billion and $3.2 billion, is under what analysts are anticipating, $3.5 billion. The stock immediately took a hit dropping down to near its overall low for the year.
