HP ProLiant Gen9 Servers Will Ship in September 2014
Update 9/9/2014: HP Releases Details on New Gen9 ProLiant Servers
HP has announced details about the forthcoming Generation 9 of its ProLiant Server family. The ProLiant Gen9 lineup is optimized for convergence, cloud, and software-defined environments with an architecture based on a pool of processing resources that is geography- and workload-agnostic. ProLiant Gen9 servers can take advantage of proprietary HP PCIe application accelerators and the company’s DDR4 SmartMemory technology.
The ProLiant Gen9 lineup will be available as blade, rack, and tower servers. According to HP, its Smart Array P840, a ProLiant Gen9 server, has been able to sustain one million IOPS for 4k random read operations when used with 12Gb/s controllers. The new ProLiant servers also support HP’s SmartCache and its FlexFabric adapters. According to HP, the combination DDR4 SmartMemory with 12Gb/s SAS SSDs can double the performance-per-watt when compared to the same hardware without SmartCache.
ProLiant Gen9 rack and tower servers can take advantage of HP Server Management in order to implement software-defined management workflows and to integrate with VMware, Microsoft, and Red Hat management solutions. ProLiant Gen9 servers offer UEFI and RESTful APIs with features intended to support hybrid cloud environments along with an interface for cloud environments including OpenStack. ProLiant Gen9 servers will support HP’s OneView converged management solution later in the year.
HP ProLiant Gen9 servers will be available on September 8, 2014. HP OneView management software is available now but will be supported by the Gen9 platform starting in late 2014.
