Imation Introduces RDX Media Secure with CyberSafe Encryption
Imation today announced the availability of Imation RDX Media Secure with CyberSafe Pro Security Technology, the first RDX media with built-in encryption and cryptographic erase. All data written to its RDX media can be automatically encrypted after a one-time driver activation. The Imation RDX Media Secure can be used with existing direct-attach RDX docking stations and function as traditional unencrypted RDX cartridges when the RDX Secure client software is not installed on the host computer.
RDX media is frequently used to reduce time required to share data between environments or to seed cloud storage. Imation’s RDX Media Secure is designed to assure safe delivery of data to remote offices, customer sites, or other offsite locations by protecting data from malicious or unintentional data via AES-256 encryption. Shock-resistant RDX cartridges also help protect against physical damage that occur during transport.
CyberSafe Pro Security Overview
Imation RDX Media Secure users who deploy CyberSafe Pro Security can manage data security, restore content, protect data at rest, and protect data while the cartridge is being transported during cloud seeding. Over the next several months, various Imation storage solutions from digital optical storage to backup solutions will be enhanced with CyberSafe Technology, which includes:
- AES-256 and Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 Level 1 validated encryption to accredit cryptographic modules for government, financial, healthcare and other regulated industries.
- Cryptographic erase instantly erases the encryption key, rendering data stored on the cartridge unintelligible, and enabling secure disposal and repurposing.
The RDX Media Secure is available through Imation’s channel partners in three capacities – 1TB, 500GB, 320GB – and is priced at $50 more than its traditional RDX media at each capacity.
