Microsoft Acquires Avere

The acquisitions are off to an early start in 2018, as today the Microsoft Corporation announced it has acquired Avere Systems. This should give Microsoft a leg up to its hybrid cloud strategy and an overall boost to Azure. The terms of the acquisitions weren’t disclosed.

Avere has been around for almost a decade. They are primarily known to allow users to store data on-prem but have easy access to the cloud. This helps assuage some concerns users may have about using the cloud as well as aide in migration to the cloud. What’s interesting here is that, while Avere works with Azure, it mainly promotes how it works with AWS and Google Cloud Platform, Azure competitors. One would assume a tighter integration with Azure following the acquisition while continuing support for AWS and GCP.
