NetApp & Microsoft Partner On Azure Enterprise NFS Service

Today NetApp announced that it would be the data services technology behind first-of-its-kind cloud- centric capabilities for the hybrid cloud. NetApp will be powering the first Network File System (NFS) service in the cloud, the Microsoft Azure Enterprise NFS Service. On top of that, NetApp and Mircosoft are announcing a handful of other deeper integrations surrounding Azure, Office 365, and AltaVault.

WD Releases World’s First 14TB Enterprise HDD

Today Western Digital Corp. (WDC), under its HGST brand, released the world’s first enterprise 14TB HDD, Ultrastar Hs14. The Hs14 is designed for cloud and hyperscale data centers that need more density. The Hs14 is host-managed, and leverages shingled magnetic recording (SMR) technology. Not only does the new Ultrastar drives deliver 40% more capacity, with its 14TB, WD states that it has more than twice the sequential write performance of its SMR predecessor.

QNAP TS-x31P2 & TS-431X2 SMB/SOHO NAS Now Available

QNAP has announced the release of their TS-x31P2 (available in 2-bay and 4-bay) and TS-431X2 (4-bay) NAS solutions featuring quad-core processors. Designed for SMB and SOHO users, both new series support Snapshots so users can restore the NAS to a previous state in the event of hardware failure or when suddenly hit by ransomware/malware attacks. The TS-431X2 also comes equipped with a budget-friendly 10GbE SFP+ port for “empowering containerized applications” through 10GbE networks.

Actifio Releases Cloud-Centric Sky Platform 8.0

Actifio unveiled the largest software release of the company’s history with Cloud-Centric Sky Platform 8.0. The latest version enables organizations to deploy Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) across multi-directional, multi-cloud, and hybrid Cloud environments to further accelerate the pace of enterprise digital transformation. Actifio states that the release if the culmination of over two and a half years of research and collaboration with enterprises, partners, and analysts.

CalDigit AV Pro 2 Storage Hub Review

The CalDigit AV Pro 2 Storage Hub is the newest generation of the company’s single drive solution line designed specifically for Thunderbolt 3-compatible computers. The AV Pro 2 supports both full size 3.5" and 2.5” solid state drives, which can easily be removable via the hubs module design so users can seamlessly expand their systems as their storage needs change. Though the AV Pro 2 is marketed for use with Thunderbolt 3 machines, it can also to connect to laptop or desktop via its USB-C port while supporting USB Micro B connectivity. Scale Computing & Google Cloud Collaborate On HC3 Cloud Unity

Scale Computing announced that it is working with Google to develop a hybrid cloud solution that makes it easy for organizations, including channel partners and MSPS, to move application workloads freely in the cloud or on-premises, HC3 Cloud Unity. HC3 Cloud Unity is a combination of Scale HC3 and Google Cloud Platform on the same LAN. HC3 Cloud Unity enables companies’ applications to use resources in the cloud and on-prem at the same time, while also enabling applications created for on-prem to now run on Google Cloud Platform. 

Cisco Introduces Intersight

Cisco has unveiled a new management and automation platform for Cisco Unified Computing System (Cisco UCS) and Cisco HyperFlex Systems, Cisco Intersight. Intersight aims to simplify data center operations by delivering systems management as-a-service (MaaS), alleviating the need to maintain islands of on-premise management infrastructure. Intersight will being using machine learning, analytics, and automation to deliver its system lifecycle management.
