Synology DiskStation DS713+ and RS3413xs+ Announced
Synology has announced its most powerful 2-bay DiskStation NAS to date, the DS713+. The DS713+ comes equipped with a Dual Core 2.13 GHz processor, 1GB of DDR3 RAM, dual-LAN failover and link aggregation support, and hot swap support with a maximum internal capacity of 8TB (2X 4TB HDD). They have also announced the rack-mounted RS3413xs+ that supports both iSCSI and NFS and offers for the first time SSD caching support.

Intel Announces DC S3700 Series Data Center SSDs
Intel has launched the new DC S3700 series of MLC flash SATA SSDs that the company says achieve 2x read and 15x write performance improvements overIntel’s SSD 710 drives. The new SSDs will be offered at 100, 200, 400, and 800GB capacities, in 2.5-inch and limited 1.8-inch form factors. SSD DC S3700 drives use Intel 25nm NAND HET MLC modules and incorporate Intel’s High Endurance Technology (HET) that tunes MLC memory for enterprise reliability. HET enables the Intel SSD DC S3700 Series to promise 10 full drive writes per day of wear over the 5-year life of the drive. DCS3700 drives are also designed with an extra bank of memory to cache data that is being written in order to protect against power failures.

NetApp FAS3220 and FAS3250 Midrange Storage Platforms Released
NetApp has updated their midrange storage platforms with the FAS3220 and FAS3250. The FAS3200 platforms aim to help SMBs and SMEs improve performance, reliability and scalability in their NAS/SAN environments. NetApp has optimized both units for flash storage to increase performance, they are cluster-enabled to support non-disruptive operation and support increased total capacity.

HP Debuts StoreEasy NAS and Announces LeftHand Storage Rebranding
HP has announced StoreEasy NAS, the next generation of its Windows-based NAS platform which will feature Windows Storage Server 2012 and will be available on December 10. The company has also announced the rebranding of its LeftHand storage family, which will now feature Fibre Channel connectivity and be known as HP StoreVirtual.

EMC VPLEX Doubles The Supported Distance Between Active-Active Data Centers
EMC has announced that it has doubled the distance supported for moving VMware vSPhere vMotion workloads between active-active data centers with EMC VPLEX virtual storage. In addition, they also announced new VPLEX capabilities that will shape the way customers think about how they share data in VMware hybrid clouds to eliminate data center boundaries while transforming their IT infrastructure.

HP AppSystems for SAP HANA Disaster Tolerant Solution Now Available
HP has announced it is the first technology partner to be certified by SAP for its HP AppSystems for SAP HANA portfolio with the disaster tolerant (DT) architecture. This will allow customers to host a second HANA system that can take over for their production system in the event of a significant outage such as a power failure or other unforeseen disaster. This certification makes HP the only company in the world that has a certified DT solution for HANA.

Dell Ships 100,000th EqualLogic Storage Array
In the storage world, shipping 100,000 arrays is a pretty big milestone. Dell has hit said milestone as Connexions4London (C4L), a web services provider, recently deployed the 100,000th EqualLogic array. For perspective, when Dell purchased EqualLogic in November 2008, there were 4,000 customers and 8,000 units in the field. In just about five years, Dell has expanded this piece of their storage business to 45,000 customers, an 11X increase.

Samsung SM843 and SM1625 Enterprise SSDs Released
Samsung has refreshed their enterprise SATA SSD offering with the SM843 and has added the SM1625, their first enterprise SSD using the SAS interface. The launch comes as Samsung tries to expand their SSD growth in the enterprise while attempting to fend off the numerous upstarts that have gained momentum with lower cost, higher performing and higher endurance SSDs over the last year.
