Dell EMC has announced updates to their Integrated Data Protection Appliance (IDPA), touting simpler management and monitoring, increased cloud-readiness with cloud disaster recovery and improved data protection for VMware workloads. Released roughly a year ago, IDPA is a purpose-built, pre-integrated and turnkey appliance that converges protection storage, software, search and analytics in a single appliance and features cloud tiering for long-term retention.

Supermicro Introduces RSD 2.1 With Pooled NVMe Storage

Today Super Micro Computer, Inc. announced its latest Rack Scale Design (RSD), version 2.1, now with pooled all-flash NVMe composable storage support. This new pooling ability can bring Peta-scale NVMe storage that is shared by up to twelve hosts. This would be ideal for applications such as high throughput ingest, HPC, data analytics, video streaming, CDN, and software-defined storage (SDS) environments.

IDC Converged Systems Revenue Report for 4Q17; Dell EMC & VMware Leaders

The International Data Corporation (IDC) ran its quarterly Converged Systems Tracker recently and saw that worldwide converged systems market revenue increased 9.1% year over year to $3.6 billion during the fourth quarter of 2017. IDC reported that sales for the entire year was over $12.5 billion or a 9.4% increase over the $12 billion in 2016. This seems to suggest that there is a slow, but steady increase in converged infrastructure across enterprises.
