OWC Mercury Electra 6G SSD Announced
OWC has announced a new high-performance maintream SSD dubbed the Mercury Electra 6G. Offering the same SandForce SF-2281 processor as their enthusiast-class Mercury Extreme Pro 6G, the OWC Mercury Electra 6G is paired with tier one asynchronous NAND versus the more expensive - and faster - synchronous NAND found in the Mercury Extreme Pro 6G. This puts OWC in the same market segment as the OCZ Agility 3 and Corsair Force 3, both offering similarly equipped drives around the same price-point.
OWC Mercury Electra 6G Specifications:
- SandForce SF-2281 Processor
- Asynchronous Tier 1 2X-nm NAND Flash
- SATA 6Gb/s
- Sustained Sequential Read: up to 556MB/s, Sustained Sequential Write: up to 523MB/s
- Random 4KB: Up to 60,000 IOPS
- 3 Year OWC Warranty
The OWC Mercury Electra 6G SSD offers speeds as high as 556MB/s read and 523MB/s write over the current-generation SATA 6Gb/s interface. For SATA 3Gb/s legacy users, speeds drop to 284MB/s read and 268MB/s write. The Electra 6G will be priced starting at $229 for the 120GB capacity version, with 240GB and 480GB versions being offered at $479 and $929 respectively. As with many other OWC products, the drive will include a risk-free 30-day satisfaction guarantee, where you can return the drive hassle-free if you are not satisfied.
