Plexxi to Announce Industry’s1st Programmable Network Fabric for CI and Storage
Today Plexxi is introducing a new suite of product integrations through its Plexxi Connect Open Integration Platform. These new integrations are what Plexxi is claiming, the industry’s first workload-responsive, programmable network fabric for converged infrastructure (CI) and storage environments. Plexxi’s new software enables enterprises that build clouds to do so in new ways with building blocks to enable the build-out of agile and dynamic converged infrastructure.
Headquartered in Nashua, N.H., Plexxi is all about implementing change in the field of networking where thy claim has been more or less the same over the last 25 years. Cofounded by Mat Mathews and Ephraim Dobbins, Plexxi points out that traditional networking hasn’t changed much but storage and compute has changed radically potentially making network the bottleneck. Plexxi focuses on service providers or “Cloud Builders” in their words. They offer Cloud Builders a comprehensive suite of building blocks, from hardware to management and application integrations that dynamically help applications to perform better and operate at the speed of business.
Plexxi claims that its new software release will enable Enterprise Cloud Builders to build an open, converged application, compute, storage and network system, that easily integrates best-of-breed products. Plexxi’s application defined networking solution provides customers with a single, integrated environment for simplified automation, orchestration, management and control for storage and converged infrastructure. Plexxi’s software release includes integrations with VMware, Hortonworks, and Nutanix.
Plexxi’s argues that traditional networking is static and serves the Platform 2 era. According to Wikibon’s Server SAN Research Project 2015, the overall converged infrastructure (Server SAN/HCI) market is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 44.2% over the next ten years. The company feels that Fibre Channel SANs no longer serve the requirements and demands of today’s modern data centers giving an opportunity to new converged infrastructure, such as that offered by Plexxi.
Plexxi is also announcing that its Switch 2 product series has achieved Nutanix Ready status.
Plexxi Connect integration packs for Hortonworks, Nutanix and VMware are expected to be available in 30 days.
