Quantum Acquires Symform's Cloud Services Platform

Quantum Corp has announced that is has acquired Symform's cloud storage services platform and its development team, including Symform's CTO and co-founder, Bassam Tabbara. Quantum plans on leveraging Symform's cloud technology to expand its own cloud software capabilities and service offerings in data protection and scale-out storage.

Quantum specializes in scale-out storage, backup, and archiving. They offer Scalar tape libraries, online Lattus object storage, and DXi disk deduplication appliances. And while Quantum already offers a cloud-based protection, Q-Cloud, the technology and talent they are acquiring from Symform will allow Quantum to address a broader range of customer needs while at the same time offering different services to existing Symform customers. An example of the integration of the two companies is a cost-effective cloud service options for long-term archive data and cold storage, complimenting the StorNext-Lattus solutions.
