LaCie 8big Rack Thunderbolt 2 Review

LaCie has brought their design, performance, and Mac compatibility to another niche; rackmount direct attached storage. Their debut rack DAS solution, the 8big Rack, is also the fastest and highest-capacity Thunderbolt 2-compatible device on the market. As with almost all of their products, 8big Rack's Thunderbolt 2 interface provides easy plug and play connectivity for Mac users. They have seen that design and media professionals tend to use Apple products, so they made it as easy as possible for this customer-base to enhance their storage capabilities, while squeezing the fastest possible transfer speeds out of their HDDs. Like most of their products, LaCie designed this thing to look great next to any modern all-Mac setup. Thanks to Neil Poulton, their product designer, the 8big Rack has a sleek aluminum face and minimalistic design while providing up to 48TB of storage (with up to eight Seagate 6TB 7200RPM HDDs), 1330MB/s transfers (in a 4K video editing environment), and a slew of user-friendly features, all in a 1U form factor.

HP Z620 Workstation Review

Like all HP workstations, the Z620 is designed to satisfy the ever-growing demands of professionals who work with large and complex datasets, complex 3D models, require multiple displays, or for businesses that just need a high-performance and reliable system for their employees. The HP Z620 Workstation is quoted to having four times the memory capacity compared to last generation systems, a larger power supply, and support for single- or dual-socket processor configurations. It is also equipped with (up to) 24 discrete processor cores, making the Z620 seems quite a powerhouse when it comes to computing and visualization horsepower. It offers all of this while having an unobtrusive build and footprint as well as producing very little noise when the workstation is doing its thing.

Dell PowerEdge 13G R730xd Review

Today Dell announced the specifications and availability information for its new 13th Generation PowerEdge R730 and R730xd servers which feature the new Intel Haswell Xeon E5-2600 v3 processor family (which was also announced today). The R730xd is a 2U storage server solution built on Intel’s Grantly platform, which consists of Intel Xeon Haswell processors and a Wellsburg C610 chipset with DDR4 memory. These processors incorporate embedded PCIe lanes for improved I/O performance. Certain E5-2600 series processors can also perform DDR4 operations at a data rate of 2,133MT/s, and the R730xd supports three DIMMs per channel at 1,866MT/s with these processors. The R730xd also boasts impressive storage-centric configurations; our review model has a unique combination of 1.8" SSD bays, 3.5" hard drive bays and 2.5" flexible drive bays in the rear of the chassis.
