Netgear ProSAFE S3300 Series Smart Switches Review

The ProSAFE S3300 Series is Netgear’s newest generation of Gigabit Stackable Smart Switches that can be stacked with upwards of six switches and 40G bi-directional bandwidth, continuing the company’s focus on adapting solutions that support 10G ports.  This stacking ability allows for the single IP management of multiple units as well as a noticeable improvement in network redundancy and reliability, which allows for a future-proof architecture for network expansion when the time comes. While their portfolio of standalone Smart Switch Series is meant for SMB customers while emphasizing on high performance, the new Netgear switches are designed as an economical alternative for companies looking to move to a 10G-based network, offering the flexibility in 10-Gigabit connectivity with both copper and fiber. The S3300 Series is equipped with two dedicated SFP+ ports, which give businesses the benefit of fiber uplinks without having to forfeit any downlink Gigabit ports. Emulex LPe16202 Dual-Port CFA Review

The Emulex LPe16202 dual-port Converged Fabric Adapter (CFA) is based on the same hardware as the LightPulse Gen 5 Fibre Channel (FC) cards we reviewed in December of last year, with the addition of supporting Ethernet as well as FC modes. The LPe160202 provides the flexibility to run Gen 5 (16Gb), Advanced-8 (8Gb) Fibre Channel, or 10GbE Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) connectivity with one adapter. Emulex OneConnect OCe11102-NT Review

The OneConnect OCe11102-NT is a high performance, dual-port 10GbE network adapter and a member of the Emulex OneConnect Universal Converged Network Adapter (UCNA) family; this 10GbE card was most recently used in our NETGEAR ReadyNAS 716 review. OCe11102-NT adapters are designed to support protocol offloads for TCP/IP and TCP Chimney Offload, allowing for maximum bandwidth all the while using minimum CPU resources. In addition, OneConnect protocol offloads to facilitate more virtual machines per server in virtualized server deployments, in which OneConnect claims that this will result in efficiency and optimized return on investment.

Atto FastFrame NT12 Review

The Atto FastFrame NT12 is a dual port 10GBASE-T network adapter built on industry standard Intel silicon that offers faster speeds than 8Gbs Fibre Channel while being wire structured familiar for networking professionals. The NT12 provides improved iSCSI service with Lossless Ethernet (CEE) and Data Center Bridging (DCB) support. The Atto FastFrame NT12 uses the Intel (X540 chipset) silicon to give it broad support for Windows and Linux servers The NT12 is especially geared for high performance I/O connectivity for Mac OS X environments, offering Xtend SAN (an iSCSI initiator for OSX). This makes the NT12 great for creative ventures that use exclusively Macs for their business, such as a graphic design firm, a recording studio, or video editing. Not only is the NT12 great for Macs, it is also backward compatible to Gig-E allowing for stage-upgrades. QLogic 8300 Series Converged Network Adapter Review

QLogic’s 8300 series is the company’s fourth generation of converged network adapters, offering 10Gb Ethernet and 16Gb Fibre Channel  connectivity via single- and dual-port models with support for SFP+ direct attach copper cables and SR (short reach) optical transceivers. Administrators can utilize QLogic’s I/OFlex technology to convert 8300 series adapters between a 10Gb converged Ethernet and 16Gb Fibre Channel in the field. The 8300 series is able to offer CPU-offload capabilities for FCoE, iSCSI and TCP/IP traffic across a 10Gb Ethernet connection combined with the consistent, predictable performance and security of multi-port isolation which ensures that workload or error issues on one port do not affect the operation of the other port.
