Netgear M7100 Switch Review (XSM7224)

The Netgear M7100 is a fully managed switch that features twenty-four 10GBase-T ports and 4 SFP+ ports and is designed for virtualization and aggregating 10GbE access layer switches. The 24 ports of 10GBase-T use the standard RJ45 Ethernet connection and support Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet and 10GbE speeds with auto-negotiation for speeds. The SFP+ ports on the other hand extend support further to 1G/10G fiber uplinks and other DAC connections. The M7100 also features an option to purchase an additional power supply for a highly available solution via two PSUs. The M7100's street price produces a figure close to about $175/port.

Fusion-io ioDrive2 MLC Application Accelerator Review (1.2TB)

The Fusion-io ioDrive2 MLC application accelerator comes in capacities up to 1.2TB in a half-height half-length (HHHL) form factor (or 3TB in FHHL) and is highlighted by exceedingly low read and write access latencies. While we've previously reviewed the ioDrive2 flagship Duo SLC, which is great for the most demanding applications, the ioDrive2 single drive with MLC is designed for more "pedestrian" workloads. Pedestrian in ioMemory language though means applications like databases that can accept read latencies of 68µs, compared to the 47µs latency found in the higher-end SLC ioDrive2. Of course offering the drive with MLC NAND brings with it benefits like reduced cost, and the MLC iteration also comes in higher capacities. The ioDrive2 single MLC comes in at a maximum 1.2TB capacity in HHHL or 3TB in FHHL, while the SLC Duo tops out at 600GB and 1.2TB respectively (though the Duo featured with MLC maxes at 1.2TB HHHL and 2.4TB FHHL capacities).

Lenovo ThinkStation D30 Review

The ThinkStation D30 is Lenovo's most powerful workstation on the market and is configurable with up to two 8-core Intel Xeon E5-2600 processors as well as serious specifications to support performance-intensive applications ranging from 3D modeling to oil and gas extraction. The ThinkStation D30 is the largest client desktop in Lenovo’s workstation line. Those sizeable dimensions pay off by translating into more than enough space for upgraded RAM, additional internal storage (via SATA, SAS, or mSATA), and PCIe expansion cards for increased connectivity, storage, or video card performance.

APC Back-UPS Pro 500 Lithium Ion Review

The APC Back-UPS Pro 500 (BG500) is a UPS system designed for SMBs and home networks that provides 300W/500VA of battery backup for up to four outlets, and is unique in the market with APC's Lithium Ion battery implementation. At 300W, the device could potentially backup a workstation, but beyond that, APC envisions many end-customers utilizing the BG500 to support networking equipment which is easily within its range. The BG500 delivers battery backup power that APC quotes from 44 minutes at 25W to 6.5 minutes at 180W, which enables networking and other computing equipment to maintain continuous operation even during lengthier power outages. Of course, as a UPS it also provides protection from surges and spikes.

HGST Ultrastar C10K900 Review

The HGST Ultrastar C10K900 is an enterprise-class, 2.5" HDD that interfaces over SAS, has a spindle speed of 10,000RPM and ranges up to 900GB in capacity. The Ultrastar C10K900 also comes in at a 14.8mm z-Height, classing it in the 15mm category. That small form factor helps to reduce organizations' overall TCO, especially in networked storage arrays or any space and/or power constrained environments. On top of that, other optimal environments for the Ultrastar C10K900 are blade and rack-mounted servers for applications such as online transaction processing (OLTP), any high performance scenario, and cloud computing.
