Samsung Announces Industry’s First Embedded eUFS Solution For Next-Gen Automotive Applications
Samsung has announced the industry’s first embedded Universal Flash Storage (eUFS) solution for use in next-generation automotive applications. Available in 128GB and 64GB models, Samsung’s new eUFS solution built specifically for advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), next-generation dashboards and infotainment systems, providing comprehensive connected features for drivers and passengers worldwide.
The Samsung eUFS is configured using “the most up-to-date UFS standard (JEDEC UFS 2.1)”, claiming it will boast generous data transfer speeds of up to 850MB/s read and 45,000 IOPS random reads. Samsung indicates that this will significantly enhance performance in upcoming automotive infotainment systems to help improve managing audio content, increase navigation responsiveness, access Internet-enabled traffic and weather reports, improve handling of hands-free voice commands, and speed up rear-seat social media interplay. In addition, using the MIPI UniPro protocol allows the eUFS to detect and recover from I/O error on hardware layers without having to involve the host software or restarting tasks.
The Samsung eUFS also features advanced data refresh and temperature notification features to promote further system reliability. The advanced data refresh operation gives users the choice of different refresh methods, displaying useful information on the refresh unit, frequency, and progress for the host device’s control. Moreover, the temperature sensor inside the controller provides reliable device temperature control so the eUFS won’t cross upper and lower temperature boundaries. This is very important, as NAND cells will be able to function within the often-harsh automotive environments.
Production has now begun with specific implementation plans to be announced at a later date.
