SandForce Gets $25MM Venture Funding; PhotoFast Gaming SSD up to 1400MB/s; Viking Announces Enterprise SAS SSDs
SandForce Closes $25MM Series D Funding
SandForce Inc announced it has closed $25 million in series D funding, led by Canaan Partners. The company says the new funding will help it bring next-generation storage products to market, expand customer and partner support infrastructure, and invest in newer technologies.
SandForce controllers are currently used in Solid State Drives (SSDs).
PhotoFast Gaming SSD -- 1400MB/s
PhotoFast's new LSI PCIe "Gaming" SSD will go on sale next month. Utilizing a PCI-e 2.0 slot in a desktop, it has maximum read speeds up to 1,400MB/s and write speeds up to 1,500MB/s. It has 512MB of cache and will be available in 240/480/960GB capacities. The drive will go on sale next month for an unspecified price -- if you have to ask, you probably can't afford it.

Viking Announces Enterprise SAS SSD Up to 400GB
Viking Modular Solutions has announced the newest addition to its SSD product line, the Element Serial Atached SCSI (SAS) SSD. The Element is an enterprise-class 2.5" SSD featuring a dual-ported 6GB SAS interface. It uses MLC or Enterprise MLC (eMLC) NAND flash technology; SLC memory is also available.
The Element SAS SSD is available with SLC memory with 50GB - 200GB capacities and the MLC/eMLC versions are 100GB - 400GB. Pricing information has not been announced.
