Symwave and Super Talent Unveil USB 3.0 RAIDDrive

Symwave today announced its new SW6318 USB 3.0 to dual SATA storage controller. It is claimed to be ten times faster than current USB 2.0 RAID solutions with transfer speeds up to 400MB/s. The device bridges data from a USB 3.0 host to dual SATA II hard drives (HDDs) or solid state drives (SSDs). The SW6318 is fully compliant with USB 3.0 and SATA II specifications and has hardware support for RAID 0/1. It additionally supports AES hardware encryption.

The SW6318 chip is already being offered by Super Talent in its new RAIDDrive, the first USB 3.0 mobile flash drive. It will be offered in 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB capacities and has a claimed 300MB/s plus transfer rate. It is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and carries a limited lifetime warranty. The RAIDDrive will be showcased at CES 2010 – a benchmark video is already available for viewing on YouTube.
