Synology DiskStation DS214 Announced
Synology America has announced the DiskStation DS214, their latest 2-bay NAS server for SOHO and small businesses. The DS214 is the upgraded successor to the DS213 and delivers an optimal price/performance solution to securely share data in a variety of productive environments. Synology’s DS214 runs Synology's DiskStation Manager 4.3 (DSM 4.3), which includes several features that are handy in a variety of scenarios.
Popular DSM Funtions Include:
- Cloud Station with selective sync , which keeps files, file types, and folders up to date on all devices
- File Station folder link sharing, which easily shares content without having to set user permissions
- Android, iOS, and now Windows Phone support for convenient remote access
The DS214 improves on the DS213 by transitioning from single core to dual core processing with integrated floating-point unit (FPU). With this added performance, it boasts read/write speeds over 100 MB/s, while the FPU dramatically increases the speed of thumbnail generation. Additionally, Synology has included its new tool-less drive bays, making it easier for drive installation and removal. Synology’s new 2-bay NAS server is also designed to be cool, quiet, and energy efficient and is significantly more cost effective and easy to manage than comparable PC equivalents.
Pricing and Availability
The DS214 is now shipping globally and will be available in the United States over the next few weeks at a suggested MSRP of $329.99.
