Synology RackStation RS214 Two-Bay Rackmount NAS Released
Synology has announced that the new RackStation RS214 NAS is now available. The RackStation RS214, a 2-bay, 1U rackmount unit, will be marketed to small creative businesses and other niches where total capacity requirements are modest but customers require sophisticated NAS functionality and performnce. During manufacturer benchmarks, the RackStation RS214 leveraged its 1.2GHz processor and network link aggregation in order to attain an average of 70MB/s write, and over 160 MB/sec read with its drives a RAID1 array and a Windows client system.
The RackStation RS214 also features a floating point unit to boost multimedia processing and 512MB of DDR3 RAM, twice the memory of its predecessor. In addition to using the dual gigabit LAN ports for link aggregation, they can be configured for LAN failover in order to keep data accessible in the event of a network failure. Synology’s mobile app, DS File, can be used in conjunction with the RackStation RS214 in order to provide mobile access to its contents.

At 12 inches deep, the RS214 can be installed into a 2-post rack or wall mount rack without requiring an additional rail kit. Its drive bays can be hot-swapped and can be tray locked within the chassis to avoid unauthorized access. The RS214 is meant to run DiskStation Manager (DSM) version 4.3, the latest edition of Synology’s standard NAS operating system.
