Toshiba Announces the HG6 Series of Next Gen, High-Performance SSDs
Toshiba America has announced the next generation of their HG series of high performance SSDs, the HG6 SSD series, which offers high-performance, power efficiency, and is designed for a variety of applications including Ultrabooks and data center servers. Capacities range up to 512GB.
The HG6 series is available in a range of standard form factors such as 2.5-inch and the thin, space-saving mSATA and M.2. With 6Gb/s SATA interface speeds, the HG6 drives are optimized for fast boot ups and application starts as well as offering lower power consumption to help improve battery life in mobile devices. In addition, the HG6 SSDs are optimized for a surprisingly diverse set of use cases including notebook PCs, workstations, thin clients, server boot drives, and read-intensive enterprise applications.
The HG6 series are engineered with enterprise class technology for data integrity and incorporates Toshiba’s proprietary QSBC (Quadruple Swing-By Code) error-correction technology, which is a highly efficient error correction code (ECC). QSBC helps protect customer data from corruption caused by NAND wear, and as a result, improves the reliability of the SSD as well as extending its usable life. Additionally, the new series includes end-to-end data path protection and a self-encrypting feature option that is compliant with Trusted Computing Group (TCG) Opal 2.0, the TCG specification for self-encrypting drive function. This is also the first mainstream SSD product to use state of the art Toshiba A19nm Toggle 2.0 MLC NAND media.
The Toshiba HG6 series will ship in March 2014 and will come in a variety of form factors including; 2.5-inch (9.5mm), 2.5-inch (7mm), mSATA Module, M.2. 2280 (Double-Sided), and M.2 2280 (Single-Sided).
