Unitrends Enterprise Backup Free Edition with Support for Free VMware vSphere Announced
Unitrends is announcing the availability of Unitrends Enterprise Backup Free Edition for the unlicensed (free) version of VMware vSphere Hypervisor. With this addition, Unitrends is now the only data protection provider to offer a free, automated, fully functioning backup and recovery solution for both the licensed and unlicensed versions of VMware vSphere Hypervisor. This adds to VMware's ability to maintain a presence against Microsoft in the SMB market. It also adds to Unitrends existing line-up of software that supports VMware, including the Unitrends Enterprise Backup (licensed) software.
Unitrends is able to provide this free product as a result of its Unified Data Protection architecture which is highly scalable and provides unified host- and guest-level data protection for both virtual and physical environments. The Unitrends Enterprise Backup Free Edition can thus provide backup and recovery, archiving, replication and virtualization failover functionality at no cost.
This level of innovation has been on-going with Unitrends. The company was the first to support Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V and VMware vSphere 5.1, and last year Unitrends Enterprise Backup was first to provide an all-in-one Microsoft Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V role and Hyper-V 2012 Server backup, archiving, instant recover and disaster recovery virtual appliance. Unitrends Enterprise Backup has registered more than 30,000 downloads as result.
