Barracuda Releases LiveBoot 2.0

Today Barracuda Networks Inc. announced the latest edition of its Barracuda Backup LiveBoot, version 2.0. The new version of LiveBoot includes Cloud LiveBoot for Microsoft Hyper-V, as well as VMware, which aims to give customers of both to see faster restores and minimized downtime. Other benefits of LiveBoot 2.0 include a backup and recovery option for larger virtual machines and a reduction of boot times.

Downtime is something most in IT wish to avoid but know that it can happen even with the best measures in place to attempt to prevent it. According to two new reports, IT downtime can cost enterprises up to $700 billion per year, with an average downtime costing enterprises $8,662 per minute. Looking at these numbers will motivate companies to invest in areas that minimize downtime. Barracuda is looking to qualm these concerns with the latest version of its LiveBoot.

Organizations with virtual environments (VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V environments) can use LiveBoot 2.0 to leverage already existing Barracuda Backup appliance or the Barracuda Cloud if the virtual environments go down. LiveBoot is ideal for customers that need to recovery from a primary storage failure. They can use Barracuda Backup as a storage source for VMware hypervisors, which allows them to quickly boot protected VMs directly from local backup. Cloud LiveBoot works for both VMware and Hyper-V environments and does similar to LiveBoot, only booting VMs directly from backups in Barracuda Cloud.
