LSI 12Gb/s SAS 9300 Series HBAs Announced

LSI is announcing the introduction of its SAS 9300 HBA family that consists of 4 Host Bus Adapters which accelerate storage and meet the high performance applications requirements for a range of environments. Those include transactional databases, Web 2.0, data mining, and video streaming and editing. Optimized for the latest specification of PCI Express 3.0, each of the adapters also delivers over one million IOPS (a 50% improvement), 4 or 8 SAS ports, and provides over 6,000MB/s of throughput performance for streaming applications. Each LSI HBA is driven by the LSI SAS 3008 12Gb/s SAS controller. They all also include mini-SAS HD connectors, as specified by the SAS 3.0 Standard, and provide connectivity in a low-profile form factor supporting 8 lanes of PCI Express 3.0.

PMC Announces Adaptec 78165 RAID Adapter

PMC is announcing the Adaptec 78165, the industry's first low-profile, 24-port PCIe Gen3 6Gb/s SAS/SATA RAID adapter which makes for even denser architectures for scale-out and space-constrained environments. The Adaptec 78165 is PMC's latest addition to their Adaptec Series 7 RAID adapter family. Naturally, with 24-port connectivity, the new PMC offering more than triples existing 8-port RAID adapters. On top of that, it doubles the performance of competing products with performance at up to 6.6GB/s on sequential reads and up to 5.2GB/s on sequential writes (RAID 0). The combination of these features and speeds reduces power and costs.

LSI Announces MegaRAID Part of Intel RAID Line

LSI announced an expansion of their OEM relationship with Intel that will make LSI's Nytro MegaRAID PCIe flash adapter techonology built on LSI SandForce Flash Storage Processors available as part of Intel's RAID product line. This news is being announced on the heels of flash technology picking up pace at an increasingly fast rate in the enterprise server market. This paradigm shift relates to customers' desire to retain their existing HDD and DAS infrastructure and thus investment while still creating and operating within an integrated single architecture. Flash based solutions enable "hot" data caching to increase overall system performance.
