This series of appliances merge compute, storage, and hypervisors into a single offering giving customers enterprise-class storage for virtualized servers and VDI environments. In  [June of this year](https://www.storagereview.com/dell_introduces_a_series_of_appliances_and_integrated_systems) Dell had announced plans to offer a Nutanix appliance. Today's announcement launches five configurations of the appliance to the market at large.  ![](https://www.storagereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Dell_XC_Series_Spec_Sheet.jpg) The XC Web-scale converged series is an integration of Dell's x86 server platform and Nutanix web-scale software radically simplifying the deployment of virtual machines in any environment. The XC series is ideal for virtualized workloads as the appliances come with pre-configured options with flexible ratios of compute and storage capacity coupled with support for ESX and Hyper-V. Data center integration takes less than 30 minutes and supports multiple virtualized, business-critical workloads, desktop virtualization, big data, and cloud deployment. Using Nutanix web-scale software gives users a powerful and intuitive interface to simplify IT, configuration and management of replication, disaster recovery, and compression policies. Nutanix Prism Management framework is an easy-to-use graphic user interface and allows users to define and manage a converged infrastructure from any device down to the VM level. Compute and storage scaling along with maintenance are automated with a one-click add node-feature, auto-discovery protocols, and non-disruptive, one-click upgrade of Nutanix OS and host hypervisor. **Benefits include:** - Converged – Seamlessly integrates server and storage resources - Software defined – Delivers all services through software using proven Dell hardware - Server-attached flash – Merges flash-based storage with compute for fast performance - Scale-out – Increases performance linearly by adding capacity one node at a time - Hybrid – Delivers a unified data fabric supporting industry-standard hypervisors and clouds **Each model and specifications:** **XC720xd-A5** - Workload: ROBO, VDI, Test/Dev, Web, Middleware - Dual Intel Xeon CPU: E52620v2 - Data SSDs: 3.5" Value SATA: 2 x 200GB - Data HDDs: 3.5" 7.2K: 4 x 1TB - DIMMs: 16GB RDIMM, 1866MT/s - Memory configuration: 64GB, 128GB, 256GB **XC720xd-B5** - Workload: VDI, Test/Dev, Web, Middleware - Dual Intel Xeon CPU: E52650v2 - Data SSDs: 3.5" Value SATA: 2 x 400GB - Data HDDs: 3.5" 7.2K: 4 x 1TB - DIMMs: 16GB RDIMM, 1866MT/s - Memory configuration: 64GB, 128GB, 256GB **XC720xd-B7** - Workload: VDI, Test/Dev, Web, Middleware - Dual Intel Xeon CPU: E52680v2 - Data SSDs: 3.5" Value SATA: 2 x 400GB - Data HDDs: 3.5" 7.2K: 4 x 1TB - DIMMs: - 16GB RDIMM, 1866MT/s - 32GB LRDIMM, 1866 MT/s, Low Volt - Memory configuration: 128GB, 256GB, 384GB, 512GB, 768GB (UI) **XC720xd-C5** - Workload: Lite DB: SQL Server, SharePoint, Exchange, Oracle - Dual Intel Xeon CPU: E52690v2 - Data SSDs: 3.5" Value SATA: 2 x 800GB - Data HDDs: 3.5" 7.2K: 10 x 2TB - DIMMs: - 16GB RDIMM, 1866MT/s - 32GB LRDIMM, 1866 MT/s, Low Volt - Memory configuration: 128GB, 256GB, 384GB, 512GB, 768GB (UI) **XC720xd-C7** - Workload: DB with larger working set - Dual Intel Xeon CPU: E52690v2 - Data SSDs: 3.5" Value SATA: 4 x 800GB - Data HDDs: 3.5" 7.2K: 8 x 2TB - DIMMs: - 16GB RDIMM, 1866MT/s - 32GB LRDIMM, 1866 MT/s, Low Volt - Memory configuration: 128GB, 256GB, 384GB, 512GB, 768GB (UI) **Shared features and specifications:** - Dell PowerEdge server: R720xd with 12 x 3.5”+ 2 x 2.5” - Hypervisor boot: PERC H310 with 2 x 160GB Read Intensive SATA SSDs in rear drive bays - Data Storage Controller: LSI9207 SAS Controller Attached to 12×3.5” Front Drive Bays - Network Daughter Card options: - Intel X540T2 (Dual Port 10GbaseT + I350 1GbaseT) NDC - Intel X520 Dual Port 10Gb DA/SFP+ NDC - Hypervisor options: VMware ESXi 5.5; Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard OEM or Data Center OEM Edition - License options: Starter, Pro, and Ultimate License for each specific configuration - Software maintenance: Nutanix 3- or 5-year software Maintenance/Assurance - Support: 3- or 5-year ProSupport (4 hour and NBD) comprehensive XC Series support with Nutanix assist **Availability** The Dell XC series of Web-scale converged appliances will be available November 11th with support for VMware ESXi and Microsoft Windows Hyper-V and will start around $46,000.
