IBTA Releases New InfiniBand 1.3 Architecture Specification
The InfiniBand Trade Association (IBTA) today announced Release 1.3 of its InfiniBand Architecture Specification Volume 2, introducing data transfer speeds of 56Gb/s and 168Gb/s as well as enhancements to device, switch, and cable interoperability. InfiniBand is a low-latency, high-bandwidth interconnect solution with low processing overhead that facilitates carrying clustering, communications, storage, management traffic over a single connection.
InfiniBand Architecture Specification Volume 2 defines the physical, electrical, and link characteristics of InfiniBand. Release 1.3 improves testing methods for Quad Data Rate (QDR) and Fourteen Data Rate (FDR) speeds, laying groundwork for Enhanced Data Rate (EDR), which is expected in 2013-2014. Systems compliant with InfiniBand Release 1.3 will be more power efficient, with support for actively managed passive and active copper and optical cables.
