iXsystems TrueCommand 1.0 Released

iXsystems has announced the release of TrueCommand 1.0, the company’s unified management system that monitors and controls TrueNAS and FreeNAS systems from a single-pane-of-glass. iXsystems claims that TrueCommand will simplify 24x7 operations, improve security, automate tasks, and promote faster problem resolution for NAS systems.

What is iXsystem TrueCommand?

TrueCommand uses iXsystems’ TrueNAS API set and is thus described by the company as a “central web-based command post” for admins to manage and monitor all TrueNAS systems on a network and their organization’s data, both in real time and across sites. Users will also be able to share access to alerts, reports, and control of the TrueNAS systems based on admin permissions.

Additionally, TrueCommand’s “ZFS-awareness” and understanding of ZFS pools, caches, datasets, and snapshots allow for advanced and predictive tools. This will help users to manage the capacity, performance, and health of TrueNAS systems.

TrueCommand also has enterprise security features, such as:

  • Single Sign-on (SSO) - Single login to securely access all NAS systems
  • Role Based Access Control (RBAC) - Permissions to change or monitor systems
  • Audit - Tracking of configuration changes made by each Admin

TrueCommand is also expected to reduce TCO via its improved resource utilization and use of Open Source economics. iXsystems adds that FreeNAS systems can be deployed and managed for a “minimum cost.” In addition, iXsystems offers a free license for TrueCommand for NAS deployments with less than fifty drives. A subscription license bundled with support is available for larger TrueNAS and FreeNAS deployments.
