LaCie Rugged Raid Announced

LaCie has announced the 4TB Rugged RAID, the latest addition to its Rugged line of durable mobile drives. Powered via the integral Thunderbolt cable, the LaCie Rugged RAID features the speed and capacity to suit the needs of numerous use cases and is the only product in its class to feature hardware RAID 0 and 1.

The LaCie Rugged features Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 connectivity and is equipped with two internal hard drives that are preconfigured in hardware RAID 0 for sustained performance of up to 240MB/s, allowing users to edit photos in the field. These time saving features will definitely be attractive to field-based professionals who collect and move lots of data onto external storage. The LaCie Rugged also features RAID 1 (e.g. mirrored mode) to allow for peace-of-mind in the event of a single drive failure that may occur in the field.

For added data protection, the LaCie Rugged is built to be resistant to shock, dust, and water and is tested to endure drops of up to 5 feet and to withstand 1 ton of pressure. The new portable drive also features a cap to protect its USB and Thunderbolt connectors. In addition, the LaCie Rugged is IP 54-rated for superior resistance to dust and water splashing, even during operation.

The LaCie Rugged also includes a backup software suite and is compatible with Time Machine and Windows Backup and includes LaCie Private-Public software, allowing users password-protect the entire drive or only certain volumes with AES 256-bit encryption.
