Micron Introduces Client 2200 NVMe SSDs

Today Micron Technology, Inc. announced that it was expanding its client NVMe SSDs with the addition of the Micron 2200 PCIe NVMe SSD. Aimed at OEMs that are looking for NVMe storage, the 2200 leverages 3D TLC NAND, internally designed ASIC drive controller and firmware in an M.2 form factor. The 2200 comes in capacities up to 1TB.

With the performance promise and low latency of NVMe it is no shock that more and more client devices are going to start going this route. That is precisely the angle of attack Micron is using with the 2200. It will deliver better performance (up to 3GB/s read speed and up to 240K IOPS read) with lower latency and lower power usage than spinning disks, and better performance than SATA SSDs. The M.2 form factor makes it ideal for a world where client devices are getting thinner and lighter. The drive also comes in SED version that complies with TCG Opal 2.0 standards.

Micron 2200 key specifications:

  • Form Factor: M.2 (22x80) S3
  • Interface: PCIe x4 Gen3, NVMe 1.2.1
  • Capacities: 256GB, 512GB, 1TB
  • Performance
    • Sequential Read: Up to 3GB/s
    • Sequential Write: Up to 1.6GB/s
