Dell Technologies Introduces the Dell AI Factory for Comprehensive AI Solutions

Dell Technologies World kicked off today with a primary focus on AI. In fact, Dell has unveiled the Dell AI Factory, which provides customers with an extensive AI portfolio that includes everything from devices to data centers and cloud solutions. The initiative offers an open ecosystem of technology partners, enabling the creation of AI applications tailored to individual needs through either traditional purchases or Dell APEX subscriptions.

Jeff Clarke, vice chairman and chief operating officer of Dell Technologies, emphasized the rapid transformation AI is bringing to businesses. He stated that data centers must be specifically designed to handle AI’s unique demands for speed and scale. Additionally, new AI PCs are enhancing productivity and collaboration. Clarke noted that the Dell AI Factory facilitates AI adoption by offering a comprehensive portfolio and ecosystem of AI partners. This allows for flexible and controlled AI deployments across various environments.

An Infrastructure To Support Any AI Outcome

Dell’s comprehensive AI portfolio includes client devices, servers, storage, data protection, and networking, forming the backbone of the AI Factory. Dell is expanding this portfolio with new, purpose-built offerings to meet the demands of AI.

  • Dell PowerScale F910 All-Flash File Storage: This solution is designed for demanding AI workloads, providing up to 127% improvement in performance and enhanced density for quicker AI insights.
  • PowerScale: Project Lightning: A new parallel file system software architecture that will be integrated into PowerScale, accelerating training times for large-scale and complex AI workflows.
  • Dell Solution for AI Data Protection: This helps protect critical AI applications and data using Dell’s data protection software, appliances, and a reference design to simplify deployment.

Expanded Networking Portfolio

  • Dell PowerSwitch Z9864F-ON: Powered by the Broadcom Tomahawk® 5 chipset, this switch doubles AI application network performance through a modern architecture that offers high throughput, low latency, and easy scalability.
  • Dell PowerEdge XE9680: Supports Broadcom 400G PCIe Gen 5.0 Ethernet adapters, which, combined with PowerSwitch Z9864F-ON, enhances performance, scalability, and efficiency by creating robust Ethernet fabrics.
  • Enterprise SONiC Distribution: Innovations in this distribution improve AI performance, while the SmartFabric Manager for SONiC software simplifies deployment, orchestration, and lifecycle management with a unified view of SONiC fabrics.

Dell’s deep partnerships with leading ecosystem partners offer integrated solutions that simplify AI adoption for customers

  • Collaboration with Hugging Face: Dell is the first infrastructure provider to offer optimized on-premises deployment of generative AI models with Hugging Face. Dell Enterprise Hub on Hugging Face enables secure training and deployment of customized large language models (LLMs) on Dell infrastructure, expediting time to value for applications such as chatbots and customer support.
  • Collaboration with Meta: This partnership simplifies the deployment of Meta Llama 3 models on-premises with Dell infrastructure, providing performance data, test results, and deployment recipes.
  • Dell AI Solution for Microsoft Azure AI Services: This solution speeds up the deployment of AI services like speech transcription and translation, built on the Dell APEX Cloud Platform for Microsoft Azure.

An Expanded Services Portfolio

Dell’s AI Professional Services portfolio is expanding to enhance business outcomes from AI initiatives.

  • Implementation Services for Microsoft Copilot Solutions: To help organizations transform workflows, this service offers expert guidance on adopting Microsoft Copilot experiences across GitHub, Security, Windows, and Sales.
  • Accelerator Services for Dell Enterprise Hub on Hugging Face: Reducing the time to value for rapid AI prototyping is critical. This service provides strategic counsel on tool and model selection and aligns use cases using the Dell Portal on Hugging Face.

Dell AI Factory with NVIDIA

Dell Technologies has also expanded the Dell AI Factory with NVIDIA, introducing new advancements in servers, edge, workstations, solutions, and services. Initially announced in March, this collaboration with NVIDIA accelerates AI adoption by delivering integrated capabilities and pre-validated, full-stack solutions.

Availability

  • Dell PowerScale F910 will be globally available on May 21, 2024.
  • Dell Solution for AI Data Protection reference design will be available in the first half 2024.
  • Dell PowerSwitch Z9864F-ON and Enterprise SONiC Distribution enhancements will be globally available in August 2024.
