Aerospike Connector For Presto Hits GA

Aerospike announced that its Aerospike Connect for Presto is now generally available. Highlights include:

  • Run ANSI SQL queries in-place on massive amounts of data
    • Query data stored in Aerospike without the need for complex and error-prone processes of copying data over to other analytics systems, which significantly helps with governance and compliance.
    • Support for Presto data types, including complex types such as maps and arrays, along with both read and write SQL statements
    • Presto Aggregate functions such as min/max, sum, avg, etc. are supported
  • Federate queries across multiple Aerospike clusters or between Aerospike and other databases
    • Enterprise database deployments are typically polyglot in nature, but users can now deploy Aerospike into an ecosystem of DBs that consist of Cassandra, PostgreSQL, Oracle, etc.
  • Analyze Aerospike data via Business Intelligence (BI) tools
    • Create insightful dashboards using Tableau, Qlik, Looker, etc by accessing Presto over JDBC to analyze data stored in Aerospike.
  • Query records with different schemas within the same set in Aerospike
    • Aerospike is a NoSQL DB and schemaless, but the presto connector reconciles those differences and offers a SQL experience that users are familiar with while leveraging the benefits of a NoSQL DB.
    • It supports schema inference so that users have the option to not provide any table definition in the Presto Catalog.
  • Accelerate queries by leveraging Aerospike’s massive parallelism
    • It parallely scans 4,096 partitions to load data into up to 32K Presto splits across one’s Presto cluster and uses the recently released Aerospike expressions for pushdowns to the database
  • Leverage Presto Cost-Based Optimization via row count for query optimization
    • Aerospike Connect for Presto is one of the few Presto connectors that supports it for speeding up joins in Presto
  • Secure deployment with TLS and LDAP support
    • Use TLS to secure connection between Presto and the Aerospike clusters and LDAP for authenticating Presto users with the Aerospike database
  • Deploy anywhere
    • Deploy in a cloud or Kubernetes environment to help users leverage Managed Presto Services offered by Cloud providers

TerraMaster Released TOS 4.2

TerraMaster announced that it has released the latest version of its NAS operating system, TOS 4.2. New features include:

  • One-Click Setup: The TerraMaster TOS 4.2 offers a new and improved one-click setup that enables users to install TOS app with a single click, with no need to read and click through multiple steps. The one-click setup offers a hassle-free installation experience.
  • Improved Data Security: The all-new TOS 4.2 allows users to import or self-issue security certificates like SSL to establish a secure transmission channel between users and the server. SSL activates the HTTPS protocol and allows secure connections from a web server to a browser. The new TOS system also features optimized user logins that allow administrators to customize user passwords and settings.
  • Secured Storage Space Options: TerraMaster has added the unique Hyperlock-WORM file system to the TOS system that allows users to create unmodifiable and undeletable memory spaces at designated locations. This secured storage space prevents data from being accidentally or maliciously altered, preserving data integrity at all times. The new TOS system also offers additional SMB file service configuration options and an improved SFTP file service.
  • Flexible Start-Up and Shutdowns: The TOS 4.2 now includes the Wake-on-LAN (WOL) feature that allows TNAS users to start and shut down the device anytime, anywhere.TerraMaster will be introducing a WOL app for mobile devices allowing users to wakeup to TNAS remotely.
  • IPv6 Support: The all-new TOS 4.2 system now supports the IPv4 and IPv6 channels, removing constraints to network address resource limitations and enables connection to a wider selection of devices. The latest IPv6 channel support offers a wider address range and allows more channels to be added.
  • Expandable Memory Space and Improved Storage Management: With the new TOS system, users can now mount NFS/SMB remote folders allowing users to expand TNAS memory space. To improve storage management, the all-new TOS 4.2 system also allows users to set a quota on shared folders for better storage management. Quotas limit the allowable storage capacity of shared folders. It also disables the shared folder from being copied, uploaded, or backed up beyond the allowed resource quota. The quota for shared folders is only applicable for btrfs file systems.I
  • Improved Support and Monitoring: The TOS 4.2 system now includes a status push notification feature that allows users to receive notifications on important system events via email for faster monitoring and easier troubleshooting. The new TOS system now includes log reports which are automatically generated when a problem or error occurs. The log reports can be sent to the TerraMaster technical support team in just one click.

RAIDIX Launches RAIDIX ERA 3.2

RAIDIX announced the launch of RAIDIX ERA 3.2 That company states that ERA is its solution that allows to create a highly performative RAID from NVMe and SAS/SATA SSD for the most demanding enterprise-grade tasks, ensuring fast and effective access to data. New features in RAIDIX ERA 3.2 include:

  • Support of DKMS framework for RAIDIX ERA drive auto-reassembling: there is an automatic rebuild of RAIDIX ERA after manual or automatic kernel updates.
  • More operating systems and file systems are supported, including those only compatible with block devices with a sector size of 512 B. The most popular Linux distributions and kernels are supported as well.
  • A new level — RAID N+M, which allows creating a RAID array with a specific number of drives (up to 32) for checksum allocation.
  • Possibility to increase a created RAID’s volume capacity or to change its level when adding new drives. It allows improving RAID reliability on the fly with zero downtime and no interrupts.
  • Possibility to tune buffering time for write operations. Longer buffering time enables to reduce the number of operations of data flushing to the drive. It improves overall system performance when sequential workload patterns are applied.
