This week, Veeam launched Veeam Backup for Google Cloud Platform, which delivers native protection for Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Virtual Machines (VMs) most cost-effectively and securely. With this new addition, Veeam rounds out the cloud-native backup support for the leading hyper-scale public cloud providers: AWS, Azure, and GCP. Now, for Enterprises to embrace a multi-cloud strategy is more convenient with Veeam. No matter what happens to the data, Veeam will quickly recover it from any cloud data loss scenario in minutes.

Google Cloud is one of the largest public cloud infrastructure providers worldwide. Veeam, with this new offering, delivers a single platform to protect, secure, and manage all applications and data, whether in the cloud, virtual, or physical. Veeam revealed that last year delivered over 150 petabytes of data to AWS and Azure public clouds. Let’s remember that in 2019, Veeam first aimed at protecting data using Amazon Web Services. Then, early last year (2020), Veeam hit the cloud data protection market once again, announcing the general availability of Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure. Veeam Backup for Google Cloud Platform, like its AWS and Azure versions, takes advantage of all of the specific public cloud services.

Like the other cloud platforms, Google ensures Compute Engine resources’ availability and reliability for building and deploying production applications and services. However, the responsibility to secure and protect data is always on the customers, including backup. Veeam, along with the Google Cloud VMware Engine, will provide customers with significant benefits within their Google and hybrid cloud environment. Veeam Backup for Google Cloud Platform automates Google-native snapshots to securely protect VMs across projects and regions with ultra-low RPOs and RTOs, and store backups in Google Object Storage to enhance data protection while ensuring lower costs for long-term retention.

Veeam Backup for Google Cloud Platform has several features and capabilities:

  • Google Cloud-Native: A powerful web UI, deployable from the Google Cloud Marketplace, starts protecting data in minutes. Policy-Based Automation of Google Cloud-native snapshots for fast and frequent recovery points and rapid full- and file-level recovery options to overcome any cloud data loss.
  • Cost Optimization: Cost calculation to align service-level objectives (SLOs) with budgets while avoiding cloud overspend; back up to Google Cloud object storage for cost-effective long-term retention and compliance.
  • Security: Overcome security threats, including ransomware and insider threats, by isolating backup data from production (cross-project/cross-region); layered security to protect against brute force attacks with multi-factor authentication (MFA).
  • Hybrid-Ready: Portable data format and integration with Veeam Backup & Replication external repositories enable easy recovery outside of Google Cloud. It utilizes flexible Veeam Universal Licensing (VUL) to simplify license management and enable Cloud Mobility.

Other features to highlight are Policy-based backup protection, Backup cost estimation, Worker nodes, File-level recovery, Integration with Veeam Backup & Replication, and Restore to the original or a new location.
