Wyse Technology Announces Tablet-Optimized PocketCloud 2.1 for iPad

Priced  at $199, the Lacie CloudBox will offer the perfect mix of local and cloud storage in a hybrid backup solution.

Dropbox Security Flaw Allows Public Access to User Files for Hours

Dropbox, an online storage service, revealed that all user files stored on its system were publicly accessible for four hours this past Sunday because of a flaw in the company's authentication system. Dropbox currently has 25 million users.

Hitachi Announces iPAD Wireless Storage Companion

G-Technology by Hitachi has announced its G-CONNECT portable wireless storage device for the Apple iPad and iPhone. No Internet connection is required to use the device and it can stream to up to five users at once. 

OCZ Deneva 2 Enterprise SSDs Released

OCZ has launched the Deneva 2 family of enterprise-class SSDs. The Deneva 2 is available in multiple configurations to address just about any need. The high reliability Deneva 2 R Series for instance features a SandForce SF-2582 processor, power loss protection, MLC, eMLC or SLC NAND and boasts a MTBF of 10 million hours. The Deneva 2 C family uses an SF-2281 processor and is available with MLC or SLC NAND.

OWC Mercury Electra 6G SSD Announced

OWC has announced a new high-performance maintream SSD dubbed the Mercury Electra 6G. Offering the same SandForce SF-2281 processor as their enthusiast-class Mercury Extreme Pro 6G, the OWC Mercury Electra 6G is paired with tier one asynchronous NAND versus the more expensive - and faster - synchronous NAND found in the Mercury Extreme Pro 6G. This puts OWC in the same market segment as the OCZ Agility 3 and Corsair Force 3, both offering similarly equipped drives around the same price-point.

WD Nomad Rugged External Drive Case Released

Western Digital has released the WD Nomad rugged case for their My Passport line of external hard drives. The Nomad protects from drops as high as seven feet, moisture, dust, spills and other mishaps associated with the active life an external drive leads. 

OWC Upgrades Portable External Drive with New Chipset

Other World Computing has updated its "quad interface" Mercury Elite Pro mini portable storage device with a new Oxford 944SE chipset. OWC says the Oxford chipset offers better data transfer performance, reduced power consumption, and reduced heat. The Mercury Elite Pro mini portable storage device is bus powered and has four interfaces to choose from: FireWire 400/800, USB 2.0, and eSATA. Currently there is no support for USB 3.0. The drive is designed for both PC and Mac users.

Samsung Shoots 12.5mm MT2 With Shrink-Ray, Makes Thinner 9.5mm 1TB SpinPoint M8

Samsung announced their new 9.5mm tall 1TB SpinPoint M8, using their two of their new 500GB platters. This drive will mark the first 1TB notebook drive in the more common 9.5mm drive height versus the larger 12.5mm size commonly used for the largest capacity 2.5-inch hard drives. Up until this release, the largest 2.5-inch drive from Samsung was the 1TB SpinPoint MT2.

 

Corsair Issues Force Series 3 SSD Recall

The Corsair Force Series 3 SSDs were announced just a few weeks ago - boasting SandForce SF-2281 controllers and a very aggressive price point. Just days after the first units started shipping, Corsair has issued a recall of the 120GB Force Series 3 SSDs. According to Corsair, the 120GB model is seeing, "a significant percentage of these drive do not operate to specification." What the failure is exactly isn't clear, Corsair is quick to deflect blame from their partners, simply stating that both hardware and firmware need to be fixed.
