Quantum Introduces Converged Tape Appliance For Veeam Environments

Quantum today announced the availability of a new converged tape appliance designed to simplify creating tape backups in a Veeam environment. The solution is available as a single SKU, making it easier to purchase and implement a tape library platform optimized for Veeam backups. The Quantum converged tape appliance offers both a Veeam tape server and a tape library rack unit, this will allow small to large companies to add tape backup capabilities painlessly.

Huawei ES3000 V5 SSD Review

Huawei launched the ES3000 V3 NVMe enterprise SSD in 2016, their first NVMe drive for the enterprise. Overall, the drive was a good first effort as NVMe was just finding its way into the most demanding applications in the data center. This summer, Huawei has built on the foundation of the V3 family with the ES3000 V5 portfolio. The product announcement came at Interop, where Huawei revealed several details of the upcoming drive, which will be generally available in Q4 this year. Compared to the V3, the V5 drives bring increased capacity, performance, and reliability to the table.

NVIDIA Makes Several Announcements At SIGGRAPH 2018

This year at SIGGRAPH, NVIDIA made several announcements. These announcements include a new Graphics architecture, Turing, as well as the world’s first ray-tracing GPU, the Quadro RTX. NVIDIA is happy to announced endorsements from some of the top graphics software companies and it has made its Material Definition Language SDK available as open source.

Datrium Introduces CloudShift

Today Datrium introduced its new SaaS-based DR orchestration service for VMware, CloudShift. The new DR service combines Datrium’s single stack design with its SaaS platform to tackle real challenges that DR platforms are plagued with and can deliver predictable success. Datrium states that CloudShift will be simple to operate, with low recovery point objectives (RPO), low AWS cloud cost, and end-to-end readiness assurance. The company will demonstrate CloudShift at the VMworld conference in Las Vegas, Aug. 26-30, Booth #1350.

Mellanox Introduces New High-Performance BlueField Storage Controllers

At FMS 2018, Mellanox introduced yet another new addition to its BlueField family, this time with new storage controllers. The new storage controllers, the BlueField BF1600 and BF1700, are stated as offering ultra-high performance for Ethernet Storage Fabrics, along with extreme efficiency and programmable virtualization for NVMe over Fabrics (NVMe-oF). Lenovo Releases Two New ThinkPads

Today Lenovo expanded its ThinkPad line with the release of two new models, the ThinkPad P1 and the ThinkPad P72. The P1 will be Lenovo’s thinnest and lightest mobile workstation to date, and still packing a 15.6” 4K screen. The P72 is a 17” mobile workstation with up to 6TB of storage offered.

AMD Announces Radeon Pro WX 8200

Today at SIGGRAPH, AMD announced that it was expanding its powerful workstation, Radeon Pro WX, line with a new addition, the WX 8200. The WX 8200 is billed as the most powerful workstation GPU under a thousand dollars. The company is also announcing major updates to its Radeon ProRender technology.

Seagate Expands Its Nytro SSD Family

This week at FMS 2018 in Santa Clara, Seagate Technologies announced that it was expanding its Nytro portfolio adding more SSD flash drives. Though the company has some SSDs for end users, it announced more enterprise SSDs including the Nytro 1000 SATA and Nytro 5020 NVMe. These new enterprise drives are aimed at data centers looking to upgrade their current storage.
