This marks an expansion of Dells 5000 mainstream series of thin clients. Not only is this an expansion of the line, the 5070 is highly versatile and powerful replacing several offerings in the 5000 series. Dell EMC is also expanding its VDI Complete Solutions to now include PowerEdge 14th generation infrastructure and simplified configuration options.  ![](https://www.storagereview.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/StorageReview-Dell-wyse_5070.jpg) Thin clients and zero clients are becoming increasingly popular across several fields. While the thought of buying hundreds if not thousands of units and managing them centrally is appealing, there are certain use cases that require different configurations. Dell has come up with a seemingly simple solution, standardize across the enterprise. Not only are there high levels of standardization, the 5070 is the most configurable thin client to date. The 5070 touts standardization, performance, and configurability all while remaining price competitive. The Wyse 5070 runs the usual suspects including Citrix, VMware, and Microsoft VDI as well as browser-based solutions such as Office365and Google Docs. The new thin client gives users the choice between Pentium and Celeron CPUs. Another choice that is unique to this thin client is the choice between a slim chassis or an extended chassis. The extended allows for even more options including a half-height PCIe slot for a discrete GPU, not to mention the three additional ports gained from it.  **Dell Wyse 5070 thin client key specifications:** - Client OS: - Wyse ThinOS 8.5.1, Wyse ThinOS with PCoIP 8.5.1 - Windows 10 IoTE Redstone 1 - Wyse ThinLinux2.0.1 - CPU: - Intel Pentium Silver J5005 1.5GHz quad-core processor - Intel Celeron J4105 1.5GHz quad-core processor - Graphics: - Built-in Intel UHD 600/605 graphics controller - OpenGL 4.4, OpenCL 1.2, OpenGL ES 3.1, Vulkan - AMD Radeon 9173 PCI-E graphics card (optional, Extended chassis) - Memory: 4GB-8GB DDR4 2400MHz, two SODIMM sockets - Storage: - 32GB –256GB SSD (Celeron with 8GB RAM, all Pentium and Win 10 IoTE) - 32GB eMMC Flash soldered (Celeron with 4GB and Win 10 IoTE) - 16GB eMMC Flash soldered, plus optional SSD (ThinOS/ThinLinux) - I/O - Slim Chassis: - 3 x USB 2.0 (2 front, 1 internal)  - 6 x USB 3.0 (1 front, 4 rear, 1 internal) - 1 x USB 3.1 Type C (front) - 2 X DisplayPort 1.2a (Celeron) - 3 X DisplayPort 1.2a (Pentium) - 1 x VGA port (optional) - 1 x 1Gb/s RJ45 (2ndRJ-45 optional) - 1 x Serial port, powered (2nd serial port optional) - 1 x SFP networking port (optional) - 1 x Dual-antenna wireless networking module (optional, WiFiand Bluetooth) - 1 x Smartcard/CAC reader (optional front integrated) - Extended Chassis - 3 x USB 2.0 (2 front, 1 internal) - 6 x USB 3.0 (1 front, 4 rear, 1 internal)  - 1 x USB 3.1 Type C (front) - 3 x DisplayPort 1.2a3 x DisplayPort 1.2a (1 std+ 2 mini; optional AMD Radeon 9173 GPU)  - 1 x VGA port (optional) - 1 x 1Gb/s RJ45 (2nd RJ45 optional) - 2 x Serial port (one powered)  - 1 x Parallel port  - 1 x SFP networking port (optional) - 1 x Dual-antenna wireless networking module (optional, WiFiand Bluetooth)  - 1 x Smartcard/CAC reader (optional front integrated) - 1 x PCI Express ½-height slot - Networking: - Integrated Realtek Ethernet LAN 10Mb/100Mb/1Gb Copper RJ-45 - Optional Intel Wireless-AC 2×2 802.11ac wireless with Bluetooth 4.0, external antennas - Wake on LAN - Display: - Pentium w/graphics card: Up to 6 monitors (4 @ 3840×2160@60Hz, 2 @ 2560×1600@60Hz) - Pentium: up to 3 monitors (2 @ 3840×2160@60Hz, 1 @ 2560×1600@60Hz) - Celeron w/8GB RAM:up to 2 monitors @ 3840×2160@60Hz - Celeron w/4GB RAM: up to 2 monitors @ 2560×1600@60Hz - Dimensions - Slim: Height 184 mm x Width 35.6 mm x Depth 184 mm - Extended: Height 184 mm x Width 56 mm x Depth 184 mm - Weight - Slim: 1.2 kg (2.65 lbs) - Extended: 1.36 kg (3.0 lbs) without add-on card The main customer demand for Dell EMC’s VDI Complete Solutions was to include support for the Dell EMC PowerEdge 14th generation servers based on Dell EMC VxRail and vSAN Ready Nodes.
