Professor Yiannis Ampatzidis, with the UF Agricultural and Biological Engineering Department, has been working on intelligent sprayers that not only solve the problem but do so in a more ecologically friendly way. Thanks to a new relationship with NVIDIA and its Applied Research Accelerator Program, a fleet of smart sprayers can analyze each possible tree and make the right call when deploying care.

We all know NVIDIA from their GPUs, whether you’re a gamer, creative pro, or leveraging servers in the data center to solve complex models. But NVIDIA also has a toolbox of tiny compute models in their Jetson family, like the TX2 module pictured above. Their GPU-enabled units let researchers like Yiannis collect and analyze data in the field so they can make real-time decisions. Strapped to a UAV they’re redefining how agriculture works which is great for citrus growers everywhere. Sadly they’re also saving squash.
