Western Digital Q3 2012 - Capacity to Meet Hard Drive Demand This Quarter
In their Q3 2012 quarterly earnings call, Western Digital drive shipments in the quarter that ended in March were 44.2 million units, compared to 28.5 million in the prior quarter, which shows major recovery from the Thailand floods as well as immediate benefit from the Hitachi acquisition. WD also indicated for the first time in a long time that they believe there's sufficient capacity to meet hard drive demand for the current quarter.
Quarter highlights included the shipment of; the first 2TB 2.5" portable hard drives (2TB My Passport Studio, 2TB My Passport), the 1TB VelociRaptor, Hitachi's 7K4000 Ultrastar 4TB SATA enterprise hard drive and Hitachi's 25nm SLC enterprise SSD.
