Today Alluxio, Inc. (formerly Tachyon) announced a new data analytics solution. The new solution is for Big Data workloads and is designed to work with Alluxio Enterprise Edition (AEE) and Dell EMC’s Elastic Cloud Storage (ECS). As the case with most analytic solutions, Alluxio’s solution is designed to enable Dell EMC ECS customers to gain key insights from their data and can prove to be valuable in several ways.
First announced as Tachyon in April 2013 as an open source project, the company was ventured-backed by Andreessen Horowitz and founded by those that created the project to become Alluxio, Inc. Alluxio states that they are the world's first system that unifies data at memory speed. The “memory speed” would enable businesses to access data quickly across disparate storage systems, which in turn means that they can manage their data more efficiently, discover valuable insights faster, and ease their adoption of the hybrid cloud. Currently, Alluxio runs critical workloads for companies such as Alibaba, Baidu, Barclay's Bank, CERN, ESRI, Huawei, Intel, and Juniper.
Digital disruption can bring great things but it also leads to a level of uncertainty in all types of organizations. This disruption puts the data center in a state of flux where evolution of technology is rapidly changing. The Dell EMC ECS storage platform is ideal for such cases. As we’ve said, using ECS, companies will have the infrastructure they need for modern applications as well as the ability to realize faster time to market and compelling cloud economics. ECS can work with existing IT investments as well.
According to Alluxio, its new solution gives customers the benefits of both ECS and AEE software. Customers will be able analyze large amounts of data in real-time. The new Alluxio solution can avoid bottlenecks common with Big Data workloads, sharing data at “memory speed.”
