AMD’s latest announcement at CES 2024 promises a significant leap in desktop processor technology, especially for PC gaming and creative performance. AMD is launching the Ryzen 8000G Series desktop processors, including the Ryzen 7 8700G.

The 8000 G series shows up not only with its powerful built-in graphics but also for being the first desktop PC processor to include a dedicated AI neural processing unit (NPU). This advancement is positioned to unlock new AI capabilities for PCs, enhancing productivity, efficiency, and advanced collaboration. AMD also positions the NPU to introduce new experiences like AI-powered noise cancellation.

The Ryzen 8000G Series processors, built on the AMD “Zen 4” architecture, are optimized for efficiency and performance. The Ryzen 7 8700G boasts eight cores, 16 threads, 24MB of Cache, and Radeon 780M graphics. It’s an all-in-one solution offering performance for gaming titles in the esports sector and content creation.

New AI PCs Coming Soon

AMD’s OEM partners, including Lenovo, Razer, Asus, and Acer, are set to introduce new AI PCs featuring AMD Ryzen 8040 Series mobile processors. AMD has been pushing hard for the AI PC era and is providing a roadmap for cutting-edge solutions to gamers, professionals, and everyday users.

As an entry-level CPU marketed for gaming and creation, the 8000G and 5000 Series refresh look like good value for those wanting to roll their own system. Offering upgrade paths, the Ryzen 8000G and 5000 Series processors are expected to be available to DIY customers and SI partners from January 31st, 2024, with OEM systems arriving in Q2 2024.
