Caringo Announces Three Products for Scalable Elastic Cloud Storage

Caringo is introducing three new products, Elastic Content Protection, CloudScaler, and Indexer, as part of its elastic cloud storage software solution. These products integrate with the company’s CAStor-powered Object Storage Platform to offer a complete stack of software appliances for public and private clouds that can scale from terabytes to petabytes.

Elastic Content Protection Overview

Elastic Content Protection (ECP) provides data protection that expands or contracts to meet SLA, footprint, or accessibility requirements. ECP protects terabyte- to exabyte-scale storage by replication and by using erasure coding to divide data and parity segments in a way that data can be recovered using less capacity and operational resources than a replicated copy.

ECP will allow administrators to define levels of protection for different business requirements, for example by using replication for smaller files/clusters or for ‘hot’ frequently accessed files, while providing erasure coding for larger-scale storage. This protection functionality integrates with Caringo’s symmetric architecture so there are no specialty nodes or single points of failure and all nodes participate in recovery. Multi-threaded striping ensures that data protection operations do not impact performance, enabling 40-70% more efficient space utilization according to Caringo benchmarks.

CloudScaler Overview

CloudScaler enables organizations to provide cloud storage as a service, using a software gateway appliance that extends Caringo’s Object Storage Platform with secure multi-tenant features including authentication and authorization of access on a per-call basis, quotas, bandwidth and capacity metering, and the ability to integrate into 3rd-party billing systems. A web-based administration portal for tenant management and a portal for end users provides granular object management; CloudScaler integrates with Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) and Access Directory (AD) for authentication.

Indexer Overview

Caringo Indexer provides insight and intelligence into data stored in the Object Storage Platform. A NoSQL data store that indexes all objects in a CAStor cluster and allows searching by filename, universal unique identifier or metadata. Indexer integrates with CloudScaler portal to present the information in a graphical user interface.
