CommVault Announces Simpana 10 Updates for Microsoft Application and Cloud Environments

CommVault today announced major updates to its Simpana 10 software platform. Simpana coordinates data protection, management, and access throughout Microsoft environments, from clients and workstations to Microsoft Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V virtualization and Azure cloud storage. CommVault also announced details of  new Simpana ContentStore integration with Microsoft Exchange, along with new support for Office365 and SQL Server 2014 and other enhancements.

Simpana coordinates data protection, management, and access throughout Microsoft environments, from clients and workstations to Microsoft Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V virtualization and Azure cloud storage. CommVault also announced details of  new Simpana ContentStore integration with Microsoft Exchange, along with new support for Office365 and SQL Server 2014 and other enhancements.

Simpana 10 disaster recovery operations for Windows Server 2012 R2 environments that leverage Hyper-V will be accelerated by the new updates. Automated offsite replication and virtual machine lifecycle management for end-users are also now available for Windows Server 2012 R2 with Hyper-V via Simpana. Users can provision their own virtual machines, apply data protection, and recover or expire VMs. Block-based tracking support for Hyper-V (CBT), also provides new options for incremental backup.

Simpana is designed to complement Microsoft archival functionality with enhanced compliance and eDiscovery features and a management interface for federated search, legal hold, file and email analytics, and retention. Search functionality is accessible from within Windows Explorer, Outlook, and other Microsoft applications. Simpana ContentStore Mail now enables organizations to house all Exchange data in the ContentStore repository, with new PST archiving functionality to provide access to email whether or not the messages are stored locally. Simpana users can also search archived email through a web console, mobile apps, and other Microsoft applications.

New Office 365 integration can create on-premises copies of cloud-based files for enhanced search, eDiscovery, and compliance requirements. Simpana’s new SharePoint integration will enable externalized BLOB storage to reduce SharePoint database size. Simpana 10 will now offer simplified SQL Server 2014 support with automated provisioning of the SQL database from backup copies. Companies transitioning away from Windows XP can use CommVault Edge to backup, recover, and migrate data to Windows 7 and 8. CommVault Edge enables remote data wipes and offers data protection with selective sync for tablets and smartphones for compliance.
