Today at Dell EMC World 2017, Dell EMC announced and previewed the latest rollout of its PowerEdge server family, the fourteenth generation. Dell EMC intends to continue as a leader in the server market with this newly designed server line. The 14th generation will be focused on scalability, automation, and integrated security while providing the agility, flexibility, and efficiency companies need through their digital transformations.
Dell EMC’s new PowerEdge 14G servers aim to tackle a lot of jobs including embedded in storage arrays, data protection, hyper-converged appliances and racks, ready nodes, bundles and other industry-leading Dell EMC solutions. They will be both highly scalable and performance optimized so they would be a good fit for both traditional and cloud-native workloads. The new PowerEdge servers will features automation to increase productivity and simplify lifecycle management. Along with this automation to make things easier, the new PowerEdge will be able to use Quick Sync 2 to manage the servers through mobile devices (Android and iOS). Dell EMC will be increasing security both at the hardware and system-level.
New features and capabilities include:
Dell is also redesigning the PowerEdge line. This new design is supposed to reflect how customers interact with their servers. The design includes improved airflow for more efficient power usage. Dell EMC has implemented hemmed edges to cut down on the need for paint (and fewer sharp edges), thus lightening the server construction’s negative impact on the environment. And as mention above, through the Quick Sync 2 feature, users can configure and monitor the server on their mobile devices.
One thing the Dell EMC did not get into is hardware specifics; there is a reason for that. Dell EMC has partnered with Intel for use of its new CPUs. As Intel isn’t quite ready to reveal its new gear, Dell EMC won’t be able to either. However when Intel comes out with new information, Dell EMC will most likely follow suit.
Dell EMC is also offering a handful of services with the new PowerEdge line. These services are designed to help the adoption and optimization of digital technologies. Services include:
