Today at VMworld 2018 in Las Vegas, Dell Technologies announced new solutions and bundles that the company states will simplify deployment of secure, scalable solutions for edge computing and IoT use cases. The company is combining tools and technology from its portfolio as well as partners, such as Intel, for these new solutions. These IoT and edge solutions will support computer vision and machine intelligence for markets such as surveillance.
Cameras are omnipresent with mobile devices. But surveillance, body cams, and dashboard cams are also adding to those numbers. The sheer volume of data being produced by the minute is far too much for human eyes to monitor for real-time decisions. Companies have begun applying AI to gain insights from all the data being generated and use this computer vision to gain even more insight by looking at things such as voltage, current and pressure.
Dell Technologies IoT solutions leverage the above computer vision to not only go through the video for insights but allows users to “see” pertinent information to gain deeper insights into things like public safety, customer experience, and product inventory and quality. Surveillance makes sense as the first use case for computer vision and Dell Technologies will be rolling out its IoT Solution for Surveillance later this year. The solution is currently available as reference architecture.
Benefits of IoT Solutions for Surveillance include:
Dell Technologies has an IoT Solutions Partner Program that allows several partners to identify specific use cases for IoT technology. Through this the company has created its new Dell Technologies IoT Connected Bundles. These bundles are made for the specific use case laid out by the partner and ships with sensors and licensed software as well as complimentary software like VMware Pulse IoT Center. The bundles are validated, market-proven solutions that channel partners can deliver to their customers as turnkey offerings.
Availability
The reference architecture for Dell Technologies IoT Solution for Surveillance is available now, with the engineered solution expected to be available in October 2018. IoT Connected Bundles for channel partners is expected to be available in September 2018.
