G-Technology Expands Its Evolution Series

Today G-Technology, a Hitachi company, announced that it was expanding its Evolution Series with four new devices. The Evolution Series is comprised of docking stations, and interchangeable and expandable external hard drives aimed at the creative professional. The new products include the G-SPEED Studio XL with two ev Series Bay Adapters, ev Series Reader RED MINI-MAG Edition, G-DOCK ev Solo, and the ev Series FireWire Adapter.


Today G-Technology, a Hitachi company, announced that it was expanding its Evolution Series with four new devices. The Evolution Series is comprised of docking stations, and interchangeable and expandable external hard drives aimed at the creative professional. The new products include the G-SPEED Studio XL with two ev Series Bay Adapters, ev Series Reader RED MINI-MAG Edition, G-DOCK ev Solo, and the ev Series FireWire Adapter.

Offering professionals high capacity and performance, the G-SPEED Studio XL with two ev Series Bay Adapters is an 8-bay, Thunderbolt 2 storage device with 6 enterprise-class HDDs and two integrated ev Series Bay Adapters. The adapters work with the entire Evolution Series drive modules making this an attractive choice if one has been using the Evolution Series already. The G-SPEED Studio XL can be configured in RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, and 10, it comes with a 3-year warranty, supports multi-stream compressed 4K workflows, can daisy-chain via its Thunderbolt 2 port, and claims speeds of 1,200MB/s.

The ev Series Reader RED MINI-MAG Edition is designed to optimize and simplify a RED camera workflow. The reader can quickly transfer content from a RED MINI-MAG media1 card onto any ev docking station. It also fits in the watertight protective ev Series All-Terrain Case3 for shooting on the go.

As a nice edition to a user of other Evolution Series products, the G-DOCK ev Solo is a USB 3.0 solution that can store up to 2TB of data and has claimed transfer speeds of 400MB/s. the G-DOCK ev Solo can be paired with the G-DRIVE ev, G-DRIVE ev RaW, G-DRIVE ev 220 or the G-DRIVE ev SSD.

The ev Series FireWire Adapter enables users to attach Evolution Series solutions to an existing FireWire 800 port on their computer. The adapter also enables daisy chaining.

    • 36TB – $3,999.95
    • 48TB – $4,999.95.
  • The ev Series Reader RED MINI-MAG Edition is expected to be available in October 2015 priced at $199.95.
  • The G-DOCK ev Solo is expected to be available in October 2015 priced at $99.95.
  • The ev Series FireWire Adapter is available now and is priced at $49.95.
