GIGABYTE Technology has announced that it has officially spun off its enterprise solutions division, which will now operate as an independent subsidiary called Giga Computing Technology.

GIGABYTE Technology has announced that it has officially spun off its enterprise solutions division, which will now operate as an independent subsidiary called Giga Computing Technology.

GIGABYTE and Giga Computing have agreed to maintain the same development and support for all GIGABYTE enterprise products and solutions. As two separate entities, the transaction will allow both companies to allocate capital and resources more efficiently, have distinct identities for consumer and enterprise products under the GIGABYTE brand, improve their leadership positions in the enterprise market, and explore new manufacturing opportunities around the world.

For the time being, systems sold by Giga Computing Technology will continue to use the GIGABYTE brand. GIGABYTE will continue its consumer divisions for motherboards, GPUs, laptops, desktops, monitors, PC peripherals, and PC components.

Market Impact

GIGABYTE has been busy lately, in 2022 they launched several server platforms around AMD, Intel, and ARM CPUs, in addition to systems designed for heavy GPU/accelerator usage. They’ve been investing in liquid cooling for servers and have sponsored or exhibited at enterprise and hyperscale events like Supercomputing 2022, NVIDIA GTC, and currently CES 2023.

The move to separate the brands is interesting and definitely signals that, through Giga Computing Technology, parent company GIGABYTE sees an opportunity to dive more deeply into the enterprise and hyperscale markets. While the consumer awareness and branding GIGABYTE has is strong, it may not resonate as well with these types of customers. Ultimately GIGABYTE sees a huge opportunity and is kicking off 2023 with structural changes they feel will help them be more efficient and better able to address large-scale customer needs.
