Google has announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Elastifile. The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions, including the receipt of regulatory approvals and is expected later this year. Once everything is set, Elastifile will join Google Cloud.
File storage is a critical component to enterprises and those that are going through their digital transformation prioritize it. Users of SAP need access to highly available and consistent file storage and developers that leverage Kubernetes need file storage for their stateful workloads. More and more workloads are migrating or starting in the cloud and need natively compatible file storage options. Elastifile has been a pioneer of enterprise-grade file storage at cloud scale.
Both Elastifile and Google Cloud have been working together since earlier this year. As opposed to running separately, Google will integrate Elastifile with its Google Cloud Filestore. The two companies believe that the integration will help bring traditional workloads into GCP faster and simplify the management and scaling of data and compute intensive workloads. The companies also see the integration as a way for organizations (particularly M&E) to potentially build industry-specific, high performance applications that need petabyte-scale file storage.
