Hitachi has announced the Ultrastar SSD400S family of enterprise-class SSDs. The drives come in 100GB, 200GB and 400GB capacities, featuring both 2.5" 6Gb/s SAS (15mm) and 3.5" 4Gb/s Fibre Channel interfaces and 34nm SLC NAND from Intel (IMFT).
With speedy interface options the Ultrastar SSD400S delivers sequential speeds of up to 535MB/s read and 500MB/s write with 6Gb/s SAS, and 380MB/s read and 350MB/s write with 4Gb/s FC.
It’s not all about speed though, the Ultrastar SSD400S is engineered for the reliability and endurance required for data center operations with proprietary firmware and power loss management technologies. The 400GB capacity can handle 35PB of random writes over the life of the drive as a result.
Other highlights include five year warranty, or the maximum petabytes written, an error rate of 1 in 1016 and 2 million hours MTBF. The drives draw 1.7W during idle and 5.5W in use.
