Today HP Inc. announced the latest storage solution for its workstations, the Z Turbo Drive Quad Pro. HP claims that the Z Turbo Drive Quad Pro is 16 times faster than a standard SATA SSD at a similar cost. The Z Turbo Drive Quad Pro enables up to four M.2 PCIe SSD modules to be connected to one PCIe Gen3 x16 slot.
The increase in data and its complexity is putting an additional strain on workstations. These new workflows demand more capacity and performance than a single M.2 module can offer. With the Z Turbo Drive Quad Pro users can power through demanding storage challenges with speeds up to 9GB/s (sequential). Having 4 M.2 modules in one PCIe Gen3 x16 slot allows users to bypass the storage bottleneck. The Z Turbo Drive Quad Pro correctly saves work in the even of a power failure by uniquely enhancing data integrity from power loss protection circuitry.
The Z Turbo Drive Quad Pro is currently support by the workstations HP announced last September, the HP Z440, Z640 and Z840 Workstations. As we previously stated, these HP Z Desktop Workstations offer availability of tested workstation applications from Adobe, Autodesk, Avid, Dassault, ESRI, SolidWorks, Siemens and many others. They also feature Thunderbolt 2 technology for faster transfer of large files, HP Z Turbo Drive to help eliminate storage bottlenecks, HP Performance Advisor for system monitoring, and HP Remote Graphics Software for remote collaboration of graphics-rich applications. In addition, the new HP Z Desktop Workstations offer Microsoft Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Linux support, including Ubuntu.
Availability and pricing
HP Z Turbo Drive Quad Pro is expected to be available in November and priced at $1376 for a fully loaded card with four 256GB modules.
